I use several private hides at different locations in Somerset and also some of the public hides on the Somerset Levels. My passion for wildlife photography started as young boy when my father gave me my first camera to use when on sailing holidays at Poole in Dorset. I spent many hours boating around the marshes photographing the wildlife.
At 16 I started an apprenticeship in photography, which saw me take a different direction for a while with training in wedding, press and commercial photography along with many hours in the dark room! Unfortunately I never really enjoyed be stuck in doors and was always eager to get back to the countryside.
We have been completely digital for the last 5 years now, so I now spend what seems like hours sometimes stuck in front of a computer instead!
I use Canon equipment only, including 1D pro bodies and L series lenses.
One of my favourite subjects is the Red Deer on Exmoor, we are very fortunate to have some fine specimens of these graceful & magnificent animals.
I have also now caught the Otter watching bug, I am infatuated with these extraordinary & captivating creatures. Seeing them in the wild as often as I have still amazes me, as with any wildlife if you are patient enough, keep quiet and respect their habitat it is truly spectacular what you can see.
We also try to include as many of the resident mammals and bird life in our portfolio as we can. We are constantly looking to add additional species to it. As I often say to people "why travel hundreds of miles, when I have so much to photograph on my doorstep."
Some of the best evenings I have had in recent years have been spent watching and photographing Barn Owls on the Somerset Levels. These are one of my favourite birds, it's brilliant watching them almost float through the air on a warm summers night.
The beautiful countryside that Exmoor and Somerset has to offer and the constantly changing seasons never cease to amaze or intrigue me. I have spent nearly 25 years exploring this area. As a disabled person I feel very lucky to have such a wonderful landscape on my doorstep. I definitely find visiting it very therapeutic. I would recommend it to anyone that needs to 'recharge their batteries'.
I hope you enjoy these images as much as I have enjoyed taking them, to start viewing them please select the Gallery tab at the top of this page.
